Woodcuts

  • Iris
    A print-making technique using plank wood. The white areas are carved away with knives and gouges to create an image. The raised areas are inked and printed. This is referred to as a relief technique.

White Line Relief

  • Calla
    A carved, contour drawing, painted with watercolors. After the paint dries, a damp paper is overlaid and passed through a printing press. The watercolor transfers to the damp paper and the carved lines emboss, creating a color print from a single block.

    A random assortment of media: inks, collages, silk screens, collographs, gelatin, styrofoam, crayon. It's all here.

25th Anniversary News from WPG

I received an email from Annie Turner, Director of the Washington Printmaker's Gallery, inviting me (and anyone I know, hence the post here) to the 25th Anniversary Reunion Show. It'll be held in the new WPG space at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Feb. 4 through Feb. 28, and will feature over 50 artists (all current and former members).

The opening reception will be Friday, Feb. 5, from 5:30 to 8 PM. at:

Saddened by Stephen Huneck's passing

I just read in the The Washington Post (page C7) that Stephen Huneck, a folk artist whose woodcuts and children's books celebrated animals and won him worldwide acclaim committed suicide on Jan. 7, at the age of 60.
